Polar Museum

Get into the captivating world of the polar explorers and join their journey into the wilderness! The Polar Museum is located in the heart of Tromsø Island and is open every day from 11:00 to 17:00 in Winter and 09:00 to 18:00 in Summer.
Tromsø has been known as the “Gateway to the Arctic” due to many polar explorers that began the expeditions at the pier of Tromsø Island. The Polar Museum covers the fascinating experiences of the polar explorers such as the famous Fridtjof Nansen and Roald Amundsen and the fearless trappers Henry Rudi and Wanny Wolstad on the wild voyages into unknown and frozen lands. Discover the culture and history of Tromsø at the Polar Museum, visit the exhibitions and learn about overwintering trapping and seal hunting and travel to the past to explore the intriguing Arctic’s way of living!
